Explaining Vows | Ceremonies.Scot

Choosing Words That Feel Right for You

Your vows are the heart of your ceremony — the moment you look at each other and say, in your own way, “I choose you.” There’s no pressure to write anything elaborate. You can keep things simple, choose something familiar, or write something personal. Whatever feels most like you is perfect.

Choosing One of Our Vows

In your Ceremony Planning Guide, you’ll find eight example vows. They’re warm, modern, and easy to speak on the day. When you complete your JotForm, you can simply select the one that feels right.

You can choose the same vow as each other — or different ones. Both work beautifully.

Writing Your Own Vow

If you’d prefer to write something personal, you’ll have space to do that in your form. Your vow can be:

a few heartfelt lines

a short promise

something simple and honest

You don’t need to memorise anything — you’ll repeat your vow line by line on the day.

If You Write Something Longer

Some couples write a longer piece — a story, a reflection, or something closer to a letter. If you wish to do this, we will place it as a Personal Declaration within your ceremony and pair it with a clear, simple vow for the exchange itself.

This keeps your ceremony beautifully balanced:

  • personal and heartfelt
  • easy for guests to follow
  • smooth and structured for the moment of vows

You get the best of both worlds — your own words and a meaningful vow exchange.

A Little Reassurance

There’s no pressure to decide right away, and there’s no single ‘right’ style of vow. Many couples choose one of the examples we provide because they’re simple, sincere, and beautifully balanced — and they take all the stress out of the process. Whatever feels natural to you is perfect.
